Math
Summary
Mathamatics is an event where students are tasked with answering math questions over the
course of 40 minutes. Some of these problems are beyond what a student would expect to see
in the classroom and may require knowledge of concepts they haven't learned yet. You are
allowed to bring a calculator in order to work out problems. You may skip around the packet
and solve whichever problems you like.
Rules
For this event, you are given 40 minutes to solve as many of the 60 provided math problems as
possible. Unlike in Number Sense, you are able to use scratch paper to work problems out.
You can also bring a graphing calculator to aid in answering problems. You will be required
to write down your answers on an answer sheet. You must write down the letter or number
that corresponds with the answer. Answers must be clear in order to be counted. You
can answer whichever problems you want with no penalities. For each correct answer,
6 points are awarded. For each incorrect answer, 2 points are deduducted however,
this causes you to lose out on 8 total points.
Tips
- When writing down your answers, make sure your letters are nice, neat, and bold.
- Try to work on the ones that you know, skipping around won't cause you to be penalized.
- Mess around with your calculator for a bit before meets. Learning how it works can
be useful in the long run. - Don't be too upset if you earn a negative score on your first try, just keep practicing
and you'll eventually get a better score.
