Summary

Number Sense is fast paced event where students are tasked with answering as many questions
as possible in 10 minutes. These questions are meant to be solved mentally and will require
different strategies to solve quickly.

Rules

For this event, you are given 10 minutes to solve as many of the 80 problems as you can mentally.
You are not allowed to write anything on the page except for your final answer. No scratch
work can be done on the page or anywhere else. You must solve each problem mentally and
quickly. You must answer each problem in order to not be penalized. Skipping too many problems
can result in a disqualification. A timer may be brought to the competition to keep track of
the time remaining. For each correct answer on your paper, you are awarded 5 points. For each
incorrect answer (or skipped answer)you are deducted 4 points however, you lose out on 9 total
points.

Tips

• Do not make any erasures, this can be counted wrong. Be sure in your answer and
  write it down neatly. Any slight scribbles over may get counted wrong.
• While you can skip some, don't skip too many, as this can be grounds for
  disqualification.
• If your unsure on one, look over the next few to see if you think you can solve them.
  If you think you can, it may be good idea to just keep going. Taking risks is sometimes
  neccesary to get more points.
• Try to prectice various strategies before the competition in order to be able to
  solve the problems quickly.
